Having the skill to build personal and professional networks of information and knowledge will allow managers and employees to think and act in less linear ways. There is a need to learn to behave as integrated teams, not individual contributors or functions.

Teaming, problem-solving behaviors across job boundaries, knowledge-discovery skills, personal networking outside the department, and building relationships to share knowledge and information are rarely seen metrics on employee performance evaluation forms. Yet these are the skills required to drive the CRM strategic engine. Those skills need to be valued, encouraged, and rewarded by the organization.

Don’t Take New Roles For Granted

To move CRM deeper into the ethos of the company culture, clear and unambiguous roles for leaders and employees need to be communicated. When people have a role beyond that of being an individual contributor, accountability, involvement, and interest in making CRM the strategic engine all increase.

The key is communicating what new roles leaders and employees are expected to fill. As social scientists and consultants, it has been our experience that there is always a portion of leaders and employees who can't or won't adopt the new vision. This is why there are always tough people decisions involved in a large system change initiative.

All of us are familiar with the pyramids of Egypt. These magnificent structures have stood for thousands of years, withstanding extreme heat and other factors that would bring down an ordinary structure.

When we look at these pyramids, we instinctively look toward the peak. We tend to do the same with the Cisco Learning Pyramid. If you're not familiar with this, Cisco uses a pyramid to illustrate how the CCIE is at the peak of the Cisco certification structure, with the CCNP in the middle and the CCNA at the bottom.

I'm often asked how to become a CCIE. My response is always "Become a master CCNA and a master CCNP first". That answer is often followed by a puzzled look, as though I've mentioned some new kind of Cisco certification. But that's not it at all.

The reason the pyramids of Egypt are so strong, and the reason they have lasted for thousands of years, is that their foundations are so strong. It's not the well-built peak that allows such a building to last it's the foundation.

The same can be said for your Cisco certification studies. As a CCNA candidate, you may not even be thinking about the CCIE yet (although I hope you will!). You may be looking ahead toward the CCNP. You must realize, though, that the skills you will learn in your CCNP and CCIE studies are built upon the studies you do for your CCNA.

Indeed, your CCNA studies are the most important studies of your career. Let me repeat that. Your CCNA studies are the most important studies of your career. Look at some of the topics you'll have to master for your CCNP and CCIE, such as OSPF and using binary math. You cannot understand how the many types of OSPF networks work unless you understand how OSPF works in the first place. And how can you possibly use wildcard masks, access control lists, and the many other applications of binary math you'll encounter in your CCNP and CCIE studies if you don't get that fundamental understanding of binary at the CCNA level?

I know we work in a field where our customers tend to want things done yesterday. I know that it's hard not to be in a hurry when you're studying for your CCNA - I've been there! Keep in mind, though, that when you're studying for your CCNA, you're not just studying for a certification exam - you're building the foundation for the rest of your Cisco certifications and the rest of your career.

When it comes to the holiday season, there are just certain things we can’t live without. Or at least, there are certain things we think we can’t live without. One of those items for me is a family Christmas cookie recipe that has been handed down for at least three generations. It’s called Church Windows.

Now, this nifty little cookie gets its name because it resembles a stained glass “church” window. The chocolate will form the frame and the marshmallows are the colored “glass” inside. Take my word for it, because if you see a plate of these cookies go by, grab one. I’ve never seen anyone sit and study the design, only devour the cookie.

Even though this cookie doesn’t have any decoration on it that resembles Christmas, like a tree or Santa Claus, it is only made near the holidays. Why? I’ll never know, nor will I ever make it during a “non-holiday” time of year! Family tradition says so!

So, what makes this little cookie so great, you ask. First, it is simple to make. The kids can play a large role in making them, however they need supervision since it involves use of the stove. Second, they are very colorful and brighten up any holiday dessert table. Last, they have chocolate in them! What else needs to be said? Without further ado, here is the recipe for Church Windows.

Church Windows

1 package semi-sweet chocolate chips (milk chocolate won’t work, I’ve tried)

1 stick margarine (NOT butter)

Ѕ c walnuts, optional

1 10 oz bag of colored marshmallows

2 c coconut

Wax paper

In a large saucepan, melt the margarine and the chocolate chips over medium heat. Stir often and watch closely so the chocolate does not scorch. When the mixture is completely smooth, set aside to cool slightly, for about five to ten minutes.

While you are waiting, prepare the wax paper. Tear off two sheets that are both approximately 18” in length. Lay on a flat surface. Cover each sheet evenly with 1 cup of the coconut.

When the chocolate mixture is slightly cooled, stir in the walnuts and the marshmallows just until coated. Stirring too long will make the marshmallows melt (and that’s bad!)

Pour half of the mixture on the prepared wax paper lengthwise, in order to form a log. Pour the second half on the second sheet of wax paper. Using the extra coconut on the wax paper, cover the top of the chocolate mixture. The coconut will prevent the wax paper from sticking in the future. Take one side and roll over the mix, and keep rolling to form a log. Shape it so it makes a nice circle. Twist the edges so they are secure and to keep coconut from escaping! Immediately place in the fridge or freezer until they harden, at least 6 hours. When hardened, slice off Ѕ to 1” thick slices.

Church Windows can be stored in the refrigerator or the freezer one month. Keep in an air-tight container or bag to keep it from drying out.

So, you've decided to undertake the wonderful art of face painting? It can prove to be quite an adventure and satisfying for the artist as well as the customers. Two valuable lessons I learned were: Limit the amount of conversation between you and the participant during the actual painting and learn to control your brush. If you make the child giggle, you may have to start all over when your brush strays and smears paint in an unwanted area.

Make a picture chart of the drawings and colors you are able to offer. Know how long each drawing takes, maybe charting the easier pictures on one area and the more detailed pictures in another. You may want to set up the drawings as to what category they fall into. Be sure your colors on your chart are similar to the actual colors you are able to provide.

Moderate drinking can still lead to breast cancer

While most people avoid alcohol due to its intoxicating effects, which usually causes a lot of accidents and untoward incidents, and the high risk of a number of diseases, including liver cirrhosis, infection of the pancreas, among others, its positive effects and health benefits are also gaining popularity especially when it is taken in moderation.

Moderate drinking means one to two glasses of wine daily. From improving heart health to lowering cholesterol, moderate consumption of red wine can help you stay healthy. The antioxidants in red wines have been shown to provide certain protection against heart disease as they act like warriors, preventing the oxidation process whereby reactive particles known as “free radicals” cause damage to healthy cells. Alcohol has been shown to help your heart in several ways: by raising your HDL (high-density lipoproteins) or "good" cholesterol, lowering blood pressure and preventing the formation of blood clots.

However, there's a new twist of fate to alcohol drinkers, especially among party girls, as recent studies show some link between alcohol and breast cancer in women. Having one to two drinks a day, once considered as moderate drinking, is now being linked to the higher risks of breast cancer in women. The said increase in risk of breast cancer among women who regularly consume alcohol has risen by 10 percent. Make that three or more drinks a day, and the risk triples to 30 percent.

According to Dr. Yan Li, lead researcher at Kaiser Permanente, they were able to compile and analyze data on the drinking habits of 70,033 women of various races and backgrounds. Their study was focused on determining whether the type of alcohol or just the amount a woman drinks impacts her breast cancer risk. “It makes no difference if a woman drinks wine, beer or liquor. It's the alcohol itself and the quantity consumed that is critical,” Dr. Li said. In fact, drinking three or more drinks a day may translate into an extra 5 percent of all women developing breast cancer as a result of heavy drinking.

In 2000, a Danish study had found that red wine drinkers had half the risk of dying from heart disease as non-alcohol drinkers. However, some researchers are not convinced and recommends further studies regarding health benefits of red wine. The American Heart Association requires for more research until they do consider drinking wine or any other alcohol for its benefits.

Though the cause of increased risk for breast cancer by heavy use of alcohol remains a mystery, Dr. Li and her colleagues believe that further study may support the evidence that alcohol could alter the pathway of female hormones and produce more hormone sensitive breast cancer.

According to Heather Spencer Feigelson, spokeswoman for the American Cancer Society, “the risk of drinking one glass of red wine a day is very low. It's an individual choice.” With further studies still needed to prove whether the heart-health benefits outweigh the newly shown risk of breast cancer, the decision is up to the women if they still want their glass of red wine as long as they analyze their own risk of heart disease and breast cancer. “Each woman has to analyze her own risk factors to determine what alcohol will do to them,” said Dr. Li

With no end in sight for rising gas prices, fuel retail outlets are eagerly searching for new ways to attract cost-conscious consumers to their pumps this summer. For gas station operators one solution in keeping gas volumes up while gas prices increase, has been to incorporate a novel concept called Additech, which is basically a “coupon at the pump”. Additech pioneered the "tune-up at the pump" engine care service that dispenses and blends specialty fuel additives into gasoline while consumers pump their gas. The company operates its system at 1,500 fueling positions across 18 states at major retailer fuel centers and expects to have the systems installed at over 2,000 fueling positions in over 450 sites by year-end. The product offerings range in price from $1.98 - $13.95.

If consumers have any anticipation of saving at the pump this summer, they must be aware of the following data:

·Less than 15% of the energy in gasoline is actually converted into road power; most of the fuel energy is wasted due to exhaust and friction within the engine.

·In a typical gasoline vehicle, 62.4% of the energy is lost in the engine, 17.2% from standby / idling, 2.2% from accessories such as air conditioning, power steering, and windshield wipers, 5.6% from the transmission and other parts of the driveline, leaving 12.6% to move your vehicle down the road.

Improved fuel economy:

·A vehicle that gets 30 MPG will cost you $750 less to fuel each year than one that gets 20 MPG (assuming 15,000 miles of driving annually and a fuel cost of $3.00). Over a period of 5 years, the 30 MPG vehicle will save you $3,750.

Driving more efficiently:

·For each 5 mph you drive over 60 miles an hour, you are effectively paying an additional $0.20 per gallon for gas (cost savings based on an assumed price of $2.91 per gallon). Driving the speed limit improves your fuel economy by 7 - 23%

·You can save $300 - $500 in fuel costs each year by choosing a fuel efficient vehicle.

Maintain your vehicle:

·Repairing a serious engine problem, such as a faulty oxygen sensor, can improve your MPG by as much as 40%

·Repairing a car that has failed an emissions test can improve your MPG by 4%, resulting in effective gasoline savings of $0.12 per gallon.

·Replacing a clogged air filter can improve your gas mileage by up to 10%, resulting in effective gasoline savings of $0.29 per gallon.

·Keeping your tires properly inflated will improve your MPG by 3.3%. Under inflated tires can lower gas mileage by 0.4% for every 1 psi drop in pressure of all four tires. Gasoline facts:

·In 1974 only 15% of convenience stores sold gasoline. In 2004, 79% of convenience stores sold gasoline. Sales increased in a similar manner from 17,370 gallons in 1974 to 107,852 gallons in 2004, a 620% increase.

·Sales of premium and mid grade gasoline have declined from 21.9% in 2000 to 17.4% in 2004 and is projected to continue to decrease as gasoline prices rise and more consumers purchase regular grade gasoline.

Hypermarkets:

Peer to peer file sharing how it works

Peer-to-peer (or P2P) file sharing systems connect users (called nodes) directly together. Some are true networked systems while other contain an element of the client-server structure. That is they contain an element of the original Napster centralized server system where clients are fed by a central server. Examples of this are the original Napster (Napster is now a ‘pay for music’ site) and OpenNap which replicates the original Napster functionality.

It was the central server which eventually destroyed the Napster system sins, once the server was forced to close, the whole system ceased to function. The P2P systems are now much more widely used. In these every user can be connected to every other user who is logged on. When you download music or movie files you can be doing so from you next door neighbour, or someone on the other side of the world. You have access to literally millions and millions of files: everything on the other users’ hard disks in fact, and everyone has access to yours. There is no central server, so the system cannot be shut down.

Examples are eDonkey, which is combined with Overnet, the FastTrack network and the Gnutella network. Software which operates on these networks is:

Limewire and Bearshare who both use the Gnutella network. Morpheus which uses all three networks. Kazaa and eMule which operate on the eDonkey/Overnet networks and Ares with its own network. Microsoft has its own system in WinMX, but it is reputed to be complex and has its limitations.

There is also BitTorrent. This has a following among those interested in sharing audio-visual files such as Movies and TV shows. The original and official BitTorrent client tends to monopolize a connection so that other internet business cannot be carried during downloading though this has been resolved in an alternative free version

BitTorrent is different form of P2P file sharing. With normal systems such as the Gnutella system, you will typically download a complete file from one source. In some cases the software allows you to download the one file from a number of contributing sources, thus speeding up the process. With BitTorrent, on the other hand, you download different bits of the file from a number of different sources (each file is split into about 1,000 pieces). This not only speeds up the transfer of large files around the network, but also allows you to upload a file at the same time as you are downloading it.

Brian Dessent likens it to a book. A group of people round a table each have different pages of a book. They want to get the whole book, they let each other know what pages they have and what they require. Eventually the pages are passed around till a whole copy is obtained. If there are any pages missing, someone is available with the whole book (called a ‘seed’) who can supply what is missing to complete the book

Invented by programmer Bram Cohen, BitTorrent is therefore different to any other kind of P2P network. It works differently to other systems in its search facility: it has none! Users must first carry out a web search to find the file they require. There are , however, several BitTorrent search engines on the web such as BTBot and TorrentSpy.

In addition to simultaneous downloading from multiples sources which is common with most of the modern P2P applications, eDonkey2000 also allows sharing of file segments where the file size is larger than 9.8M. As with BitTorrent, this allows you to upload a file while you are still downloading it so that the more popular files can be very rapidly distributed round the network. The problem with this is that sometimes the whole file cannot be found, and you are left with part of the file which you must complete at later date. This cannot happen with traditional P2P systems such as Gnutella (e. g. Limewire and Bearshare).

Free Downloading

The P2P networks such as Gnutella and BitTorrent are free. Many companies will try to charge you for downloading the software, but they are taking advantage of your ignorance. However, you should be careful when selecting the free software.

The majority of free download programs comes with bundled adware and spyware (also free of course!). An example of adware is the pop-ups which appear on your screen and are devilishly hard to remove. Sometimes the only way is to switch your computer off and on again. Spyware sits on your computer and send back messages to advertisers as to what you are doing or watching so that ads can be customized to your preferences.

At its nastiest, spyware can copy your credit card and banking details. It can also record keyboard clicks which allows all sorts of Big Brother activities. Employers can find out what you have been logging into all day, strangers can identify number strings which could be credit card and bank account details, including your passwords and login details. All very nasty, so beware of free downloads.

Spyware and adware can be removed using software similar to anti-virus programs. Beware of the free versions, however, since they can put their own adware and spyware on which, naturally, are not removed during the cleaning service. You are better to use reputable paid software

However, back to download systems.

So, while most P2P software is available free, I would go for the paid version. The payment normally has the option of a one-off lifetime payment of up to around $39, though frequently less. This covers maintenance of the site and 24/7 support. The software itself is free. It also generally ensures that the software is free of adware and spyware.

Stay safe with contractors when flipping houses for profit

Investors interested in refurbishing and reselling distressed properties often want inexpensive repair work, but it is important to avoid a contractor scam. Any contractor who offers significant discounts, makes large promises, asks for a lot of money up front, or wants to work without a contract should be avoided.

If you wish to start flipping houses for profit, you will need to work with contractors in order to rescue distressed property so that they're ready for resale. However, some scam artists prey on new investors, especially, by posing as contractors. Since a scam contractor can cost you thousands and can severely reduce any profits you might expect from house flipping, you'll want to watch out for:

1) Contractors soliciting door-to-door. Very few professional contractors need to do this. While some legitimate contractors may use this marketing technique, you have no way of tracing the legitimacy of a contractor who solicits this way.

2) Special prices or discounts that seem suspiciously low. Be especially wary if you are told that you must sign up right away in order to get special pricing. Be extra suspicious if you're asked to give money up front in order to qualify for the special pricing. Professional contractors may occasionally offer a discount, but they do not do so with a hard sell and they cannot afford to offer hugely slashed prices while also offering quality work. If someone is offering to do the work for a fraction of its actual price, you need to wonder where the corners will be cut. You also need to consider that some contractors who are scam artists will slowly increase the price of the work as they go along. Therefore, that surprisingly low figure will end up being a much overcharged amount by the time the job is done.

3) Contractors who want to work with no contract. Some contractors will try to make it sound as though they work on just a handshake. You should never have any contract work done without a legal contract in place. A contract protects both you and the contractor, so any professional contractor will naturally want to have a contract in place. The contractor who does not have a contract in place knows that he or she can walk away at any time, since no official agreement was made.

4) Large down payments. About a third of the total cost of materials is generally the maximum down payment required. Be very suspicious of anything that requires a larger down payment.

5) Long-term warranties and lifetime guarantees. Coming from a contractor who has not been in business very long, these may simply not mean much because there is no guarantee that the contractor will be in business for very much longer. Also, many of the very long-term warranties only apply to parts, rather than labor. Therefore, you or your future house owners will still be responsible for large share of the costs of any repairs. If you are flipping houses for profit, you'll want to make sure that any warranties can be transferred over to the new owners as well.

6) No business address. Look out for contractors who only have a PO address, a single private phone number, or no good way of getting in touch. These people can easily disappear overnight. Look for contractors with an established retail business or an address that has been around for at least a year or more. Make sure that you can track down the contractors if anything does go wrong. When flipping houses for profit, the last thing you want to have to deal with is a shoddy repair job and a contractor who has suddenly skipped town.

When choosing between the different types of fixed rate mortgages, there are a few things to consider. A longer term mortgage (such as the 30 year fixed rate mortgage) has lower monthly payments than 10 and 15 year mortgages. On the flip side, it also has higher interest rates. And, since you’re locked into your interest rates for the entirety of the loan, there may be times when interest rates go down but you’re stuck paying higher interest rates.

Black's Beach is a two mile long, sandy strip of

beach located at the base of the majestic cliffs

that can be up to 300 foot high. Formally known

as Torrey Pines City Beach, it's jointly owned by

the City of San Diego and the State of California.

There is also a glider port atop the cliff that

overlooks the beach where hang gliders and even

remote control gliders can be seen soaring.

Gaining access to Black's Beach isn't easy due

to the high cliffs and lack of stairways. The

safest access is from the adjacent beaches to the

north and south, although this way may be obstructed

by high tides or surf.

The cliffs here are unstable as well, and slides

can occur anytime, so it's always best to stay

away from them. There's no permanent lifeguard

station at this beach either. There are some on

duty mid day from Spring Break through the end

of the October.

Keep in mind, most California beaches experience

very strong rip currents. Black's Beach is no

exception, as the rip currents can get very strong

here. To be on the safe side, always swim near

shore or near a lifeguard.

The water activity at Black's Beach is virtually

unregulated. Surfers and swimmers may mix, but

they are all required to employ care and avoiding

hurting each other.

Black's Beach is also an excellent beach for

surfing, especially at the south end. Scuba

diving isn't recommended here, due to access

problems and surf conditions.

Even though access can be hard, Black's Beach is

still an excellent beach. It offers plenty of

seclusion, views, and sand for the kids. If you've

never been here, this beach can easily prove to

San Diego.

Health issues are a large concern for most adults. When we are children, teenagers and young adults, we feel invincible. But as we grow older and begin to take on the responsibility of having children of our own we begin to realize how precious and short our time on earth truly is. It seems that instead of more cures and answers to aliments there are more diseases and disorders. One of the disease’s that has rocked our community is bone cancer. A beloved member of our community has been diagnosed with this and each of us is trying to cope with it.

We live in a small close knit lake community. Our school is very small there are about fifty children in each grade. The lakes area is so beautiful so most of the teachers live in the community. Everyone seems to know everyone else. We work together, socialize worship and recreate on the lakes together. When something happens to one person we are all affected. One of the most popular girls in our community went away to college and then returned to teach in our school. She also coached the volleyball squad and sang in the church choir. She is one of those people that lights up a room by walking into it. A few months ago she started experiencing pain in her lower back. She joked about this with some of the parents. She said that she must be getting older because she was starting to find it hard to keep up with the volleyball team at practice. After several weeks of seeing her limp at games and in church I asked her how she was doing. She told me that she was going to the doctor the next day to have an MRI done to see if she had torn a ligament. A few days later my daughter came home from school crying. She said that the volleyball coach has bone cancer and that she is not going to get better.

We had a meeting at church that night. When I arrived at the meeting I could tell be the glum expressions on everyone’s faces that the news must be true. Our lovely young coach and soloist was dying of bone cancer. One of the members of the committee that was meeting is a doctor. He explained that he was not the coach’s doctor but from what he knew about bone cancer is that it starts somewhere else and spreads to the bones. By the time the cancer is to the stage that there is pain, the initial infected area is beyond treatment.

Our coach is still alive, however she is losing strength very quickly. The bone cancer is spreading and limiting the amount of time she can be on her feet. Her courage and grace is teaching all of us a lesson on how fragile and short life is. The children are learning to cope with death at an early age. They are already committing their time to raise money for research for a cure for bone cancer.

Gaining emotional stability the first battle to be won by military reservists

Today, there are more than a thousand Army and Marine reservists now serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Since 9-11, more than 153,00 Reserve forces have been deployed as part of the U. S. war against terrorism. As reservists, they are obligated to report for active duty during national emergencies and crises. For most of these citizen-soldiers, the call to active duty is more than just going back to military service. In reality, it was a total change of lifestyle.

Just like everybody else, these reservists held regular jobs and took their cup of Starbucks every morning on the way to work. Instead of sporting the latest in European hairstyle, the men had to go back to the crew cut and women's allowed hair length is only up to the tip of their collar. In a typical Army Reservist platoon, one might find an advertising executive, school teacher, construction worker, and I. T. professional --- soldiers all. Temporarily leaving behind their respective jobs, they now wear battle dress uniforms with M-4 rifles slung over their shoulders. Instead of neatly pressed suits and ties, they have ammunition belts, grenades, and radio equipment on their chest. Dodging speeding cars and overcoming Monday morning traffic now seem infinitely better than trying to evade roadside bombs and ambuscades.

For these somewhat hesitant soldiers, leaving the office to be deployed to war-torn Iraq or battle-scarred Afghanistan was not a choice --- it was an obligation. Reservist officers need to serve for an accumulated total of eight years before they have a choice to resign their commissions. Surprisingly, many actually opt to re-enlist or continue their military service even if they had to option not to. Some of those who reported back to their Army or Marine Reserve units felt guilty about seeing the war from the t. v. screens instead of being actually part of the mission. Those missions, however, are not always about going out on combat duty. There are actually more than 100 types of jobs that they can fill. These Reserve jobs include administrative duties, legal staff work, mechanics, construction and engineering, and computer-related functions.

Whether they will be deployed on combat duty or to fill an equally important desk job, many of these Reservists share a common challenge --- overcoming depression. Sadness afflicts both the hesistant Reservist who got a call-up order through mail and the all-too-willing patriot who believed in the war on terror. More than just leaving their jobs, they have to say tearful goodbyes to family and loved ones and get shipped off for at least six months to a year. In fact, many members of the Reserve forces are newlyweds or new parents. Imagine having to leave a newborn child not knowing if you would ever come back from a war that had already taken thousands of lives.

Anxious and riddled with fear, those who are “called-up” pack their bags and head for their designated Army camps and stations for months of retraining before the actual deployment to the field. There, they get training to strengthen their bodies that have become accustomed to the comforts of civilian life. Indoctrination and refresher courses have also been designed to make their better understand their mission while providing them much-needed strategies on how to gain emotional stability.

The U. S. military now has several programs to ensure that their troops have enough stability to go out for deployment. One such program is called the Mental Health Self-Assessment Program or MHSAP, a voluntary and anonymous program that measures the presence of depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other psychological or emotional distresses among soliders. More than just facing the stacatto of gunfire or going on a risky Humvee ride across the Iraqi desert, being hundreds of miles away from home is what really makes many soldiers unhappy or downright morose.

In some cases, military doctors need to prescribe antidepressants to soldiers who do not easily adjust to their new role as military personnel. For many Reservists who do not really intend to stay in active military service for a minute longer that is required, the availability of counseling and therapy is as important as having enough supplies of food and ammunition. Indeed, their struggle with physical dislocation and separation from their loved ones due to deployment is really the very first battle they need it.
